Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how ComboPilot Media Ltd ("we", "us", "our"), publisher of the website combopilot.com, collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information. We are a New Zealand company and we comply with the Privacy Act 2020 and its thirteen Information Privacy Principles (IPPs).
1. Who we are

2. What personal information we collect
We collect only what we need to run this website and respond to you (IPP 1). Depending on how you use the site, that may include:
- Contact form details — your name, email address, chosen subject and the content of your message.
- Newsletter details — your email address and the date and record of your consent.
- Technical information — if you consent to analytics cookies, aggregated information about pages visited, approximate region and device type. With analytics declined, we receive only the standard server records needed to deliver pages securely.
We collect this information directly from you (IPP 2), and we tell you at the point of collection why we are collecting it (IPP 3). We do not collect information by unfair or unreasonably intrusive means (IPP 4). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16; if you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
3. Why we collect it
- To answer your messages and requests.
- To send you the newsletter you asked for — and only if you asked for it.
- To understand, in aggregate, which articles are read, so we can plan our coverage.
- To keep the website secure and functioning.
We use personal information only for the purpose it was collected for, or a directly related purpose (IPP 10), and we take reasonable steps to make sure it is accurate before using it (IPP 8).
4. Email and the newsletter
Our newsletter is strictly opt-in, in line with the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007. The subscription box is never pre-ticked. Every newsletter identifies us as the sender and contains a working unsubscribe link; unsubscribing takes effect promptly and we keep a record of your consent for as long as you are subscribed.
5. Storage and security
We protect personal information with reasonable security safeguards against loss, misuse and unauthorised access (IPP 5). Access is limited to team members who need it to do their jobs. We keep personal information only as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for (IPP 9): contact correspondence is retained for up to 24 months, newsletter details until you unsubscribe.
6. Disclosure
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it with third parties except (IPP 11):
- with service providers who host our website and email, acting on our instructions;
- where disclosure is required or authorised by law;
- where necessary to prevent a serious threat to safety.
7. Overseas storage
Some of our service providers store information on servers outside New Zealand. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure the information is protected by comparable safeguards to those in the Privacy Act 2020, in line with IPP 12 (disclosure outside New Zealand).
8. Unique identifiers
We do not assign unique identifiers to visitors beyond what is technically necessary to operate the website (IPP 13).
9. Your rights: access and correction
Under IPPs 6 and 7 you may ask us, at any time:
- what personal information we hold about you and to receive a copy of it;
- to correct that information if it is wrong, or to attach a statement of correction if we do not agree to change it.
Email [email protected] with the subject line "Privacy request". We will respond within 20 working days as the Act requires. There is no charge for making a request.
10. Privacy breaches
If a privacy breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and affected people as soon as practicable, as required by Part 6 of the Privacy Act 2020.
11. Cookies
Cookies are covered in detail in our Cookie Policy. In short: essential cookies keep the site working; analytics and marketing cookies are off until you switch them on, and you can change your choice at any time via "Cookie Settings" in the footer.
12. Complaints
If you believe we have handled your personal information improperly, please contact us first — we take it seriously and will investigate. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner: privacy.org.nz, PO Box 10094, Wellington 6143.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Material changes affecting newsletter subscribers will be announced in the newsletter itself.
